Toyota, the leading manufacturing car company, has recently unveiled the second generation of Toyota Highlander – the 2011 Toyota Highlander. The Highlander appeared in the market to compete with the Honda Pilot SUV and other midrange vehicles. 2011 Toyota Highlander Style and design
One of the things you will notice when you see the Toyota Highlander 2011 is that the shape and the basic design remains the same. However, the front, back and inside cabin have suffered a few tweaks. Do not worry because Toyota has decided to keep the three seating rows in the Highlander 2011. The changes in the front are mainly due to a redesign of the radiator grille, the changes in the back are mainly down to a new rear lamps design. The interior will also suffer changes because the seats will be made of a more durable and stylish fabric. The wheels might also come a bit different in the Highlander 2011 but it will keep the 17-inches alloy wheels that previous models include.
2011 Toyota Highlander Engine specifications
As usual, the Toyota Highlander will allow users to choose from a four or six cylinder petrol engines. It is important to mention that there are two types of engines for the Highlander, one petrol-run engine and the other, the hybrid version, with a petrol-electric run engine. The Base Highlander comes with a petrol engine of 2.7 litres that provides 187 horsepower. This version comes only with front-drive. A six valves petrol engine of 3.5 litres and 270 horsepower is also available. If you want to have access to the four-wheel drive you should go for that type of engine. The Highlander 2011 comes an automatic gear mechanism of five speeds. The Hybrid version comes with a 3.3 litres engine with six valves and 270 horsepower. The transmission in the Hybrid version is automatic of six speeds.
Safety first
Toyota is going beyond the traditional airbag to safeguard not only the driver but also passengers of the Highlander. Apart from the traditional airbag for the driver, the Highlander comprises an airbag for the driver’s legs and head and a special line of airbags covering the sides of the SUV. Another important feature to improve safety on board is the use of ABS brakes system and cruise control.
